Welcome to the Thompson Boat Center

  • 2010 Program Registration is not available at this time. Please continue checking this site, as we expect 2010 program registration to be available for sign-up in early February
  • Thompson Boat Center is closed from Monday, November 16, 2009, through early March 2010.
  • All Bike and Boat rentals have ceased for the winter season
  • Docks are planned for removal December 8, 2009
  • Tentative Dock Return Date is mid/late February 2010.

The Thompson Boat Center, conveniently located at the intersection of Rock Creek Parkway and Virginia Avenue on the Potomac River in Washington DC's Georgetown, offers something for you no matter what yor interests. If you enjoy relaxing on the water, our canoe and kayak rentals give you the chance to see DC's monuments from a unique perspective, and to explore the hundreds of square miles of National parkland surrounding the Potomac river. For those who prefer to remain on land, we offer bicycle rentals to let you explore our nation's capital and its many bike trails. And for those who wish to learn how to row or to hone their skills, Thompsons offers some of the best introductory training and most community and recreational racing programs in the country. The Thompson Boat Center is operated by Guest Services, Inc. for the National Park Service and is a hub for regattas and racing throughout the region. The Georgetown University and George Washington University crew teams, as well as many local high schools and clubs, store their shells here for practices and races. Other GSI marina facilities; for power boat slip storage and great food, Columbia Island Marina. The Washington Sailing Marina offers sailboat slip storage and sailing lessons.
