About Rowing

What is sculling?

Sculling programs at TBC are taught in 1-person boats called Single Sculls. Each student uses two oars, one in each hand. Students scull in the Maas or Cambridge type recreational shells.

What is sweeping?

Sweep rowing is taught in 4-person and 8-person boats. Each rower uses one oar, alternating opposite sides of the boat. Sweep boats require a "coxswain", someone to steer. Students will take turns coxing and rowing in the Vespoli type shells.
