At Thompson Boat Center, we take great pride in the quality of our instructional, community and recreational programs. We currently offer programs that teach individuals about the sport of rowing, and offer instructional programs in single person (sculling) boats and 4-person or 8-person (sweep) boats. We have community and recreational programs for every age and experience level. No matter if you're currently in school, looking to return to the sport you loved in college, or seeking to prepare for a step into the national ranks, we have a program for you. Select your program type below, and let us show you what we have to offer.
What is sculling?
Sculling programs at Thompson Boat Center are taught in 1-person boats called Single Sculls. Each student uses two oars, one in each hand. Students scull in Maas type recreational shells.
What is sweep rowing?
Sweep rowing is taught in 4-person and 8-person boats. Each rower uses one oar, alternating opposite sides of the boat. Sweep boats require a "coxswain," someone to steer. Students will take turns coxing and rowing .
